Dear All:

Xavier has replied privately three times, informing me that :

1. more senior paleontologists can choose to discuss sensitive issues 
privately,

2. he has the right to choose where and how he discusses such issues,

3. he is under no rule, regulation, or obligation to continue public 
participation in a public discussion he started,

4. he will give his opinion only after reading and summarizing the 
opinions of others on the list, and

5. he appreciates my advice about what he should or should not do, but 
wishes I would not advise him.
