Paleo. Position Opening: Cincinatti Museum

Curator of Invertebrate Paleontology, Cincinnati Museum Center. We seek a
curator interested in working in a museum environment to conduct specimen-based
research, promote research on our collection, foster their use in exhibits and
educational programs, facilitate amateur involvement in paleontology, and
further develop the collection. Applicants should have interests that will
take
advantage of the richness of the Paleozoic invertebrate fossils in and around
the Cincinnati region. The collection currently consists of 29,000 specimens
with an emphasis on the Cincinnatian. (See our website at
http://www.cincymuseum.org/invpaleo.htm for more information). Immediate
responsibilities of the curator will include implementation of a pending NSF
grant to incorporate 200,000 specimens from an existing collection into the
Museum, and acting as science advisor on the creation of a 3,600 ft2
Invertebrate Paleontology exhibit to open in 2000. Future projects will
include
applying for NSF funding to computerize the combined collections. The
paleontology program at CMC works closely with the dynamic and growing
paleontology program at the University of Cincinnati. The curator will
supervise
two collections managers for the duration of the NSF collections grant, one
thereafter. Candidates will be assessed on research, publications, and grant
funding. Prior experience with collections, museums, and/or public education
highly desirable. PhD in paleontology required. We anticipate hiring at the
Assistant Curator level, with advancement available to Associate and Full
Curator, subject to performance review. Cincinnati Museum Center is an Equal
Opportunity Employer. Send cover letter, resume, and names of four references
to: Kay Bolden White, Director, Human Resources, Cincinnati Museum Center, 1301
Western Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45203. Review of applications will begin on
July 15th 1997 and continue until the position is filled.
