The Milwaukee Public Museum's Geology Section is in the process of
developing a World Wide Web Site based on the Museum's Silurian Reef Diorama
and the current research of the Geology Section. The Web site is aimed
primarily at middle school students and teachers, but will also serve the
general public and should be of interest to paleontologists. A 'lite' test
version of the site can now be visited at:
http://www.mpm.edu/reef
Additions to the site should occur on a weekly basis.
The Museum is experimenting with this site as a way of documenting the
tremendous amount of research that is represented by the diorama, but is
behind the scenes and for the most part goes unnoticed by the public. By
having this information accessible to teachers and students before and after
a trip to the Museum it is hoped that the site will:
1. aid teachers in developing activities in their science curriculum
2. better explain Museum exhibits and the research and science behind
these exhibits
3. engage students in learning
4. make the Museum's resources more accessible to schools.
Any feedback on the site itself may be addressed to:
