Norm MacLeod ---------- YALE UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF ECOLOGY & EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGY CHAIR Yale University announces the creation of a Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology in its Faculty of Arts & Sciences. The new department, expected to grow substantially in the year to come, augments Yale's longstanding institutional strengths in the: Peabody Museum of Natural History A major research museum housing over 11 million specimens School of Forestry & Environmental Studies The nation's oldest forestry school which, while retaining its original mission, serves today as a meeting ground for environmental sciences and policy and a training ground for environmental managers FAS Department of Anthropology, Geology & Geophysics, and Biology With groups in primatology; global climate change and paleontology; and molecular, cellular, developmental, neuro-biology and genetics, respectively Institute for Biospheric Studies An Interdisciplinary research and education unit, sponsoring centers for Computational Ecology, Earth Observation, Ecosave and Global Change and administering the newly endowed Dorothy and Gayford Donnell Post-doctoral Fellows in Biodiversity The new department will be housed in recently renovated facilities in Osborn Memorial Laboratory and will join groups from the above-listed units in a new $30 million Environmental Science Facility. This new facility will provide laboratory space and collection-based teaching facilities for anticipated new faculty recruitments. Yale University is seek an outstanding scholar and educator to Chair the new unit. We are seeking experienced candidates studying whole organisms or ecological systems.
