paleonet Another trilobite spelling problem

Dear Paleonetters,

The recent volume of the revised Trilobite Treatise, lists the following genus:

Wengangaspis Yin in Yin & Li, 1978, p.415 [*W. baiyanensis; OD…] on p. 443

However, in the paper by Yin & Li (1978, p. 415), the name is spelled with only one ‘g’; i.e. WENGANASPIS.

In this paper it is clear that it is not a transliteration error as the Chinese character version of the name transliterates (in Pinyin) as WENG-AN-KE-CHONG.

The error may have arisen from reliance on secondary sources, namely Zhang et al (1980), wherein the genus is spelled WENGANGASPIS and is also confusingly listed as gen. nov.. Furthermore, its two initial Chinese characters are the same; therefore transliteration would be the same.

I also send this message to help our ISP try to sort out a problem which has dogged our usage of PaleoNet at GA.
