Howdy all,
I just wanted to thank everyone for all their suggestions for educational outreach activities. You folks had many creative ideas! When I have a chance, I will summarize them on my website, and put up the materials I developed myself. I set up an activity that had students reconstruct the environment and ecology of the famous Middle Devonian Silica Formation in the Toledo, Ohio area, using some of the common Silica fossils, the rock matrix, and a few basic principles. As an activity, it mostly worked with the 8th grade girls I had, although 50 minutes is not a lot of time to develop ideas fully.
Thanks, Peg
