Actually, there are still connexions: Elizabeth is still Queen of Canada (although one hardly ever hears about it), reason for which various bodies of the Canadian federal gov't still have the adjective "Royal" (e.g. Royal Commission). In some provinces she is also considered sovereign of the province (e.g. Ontario). Of course, this is all more or less a matter of form.
