Re: The place of amateurs?

Stephane, I do not know if this is of interest to you or not, but the
Society of Vertebrate Paleontology established the Outreach Committee in
1992 for the specific purpose of encouraging productive working
relationships between amateur and professional palaeontologists. The
first issue of the Outreach newsletter is about to go out, and I would be
delighted to send you a copy by e- or snail-mail. The only problems we
have so far are (1) I gravely underestimated the level of interest this
would appeal to, and am (pleasantly) swamped by the initial response,
and (2) we have found that the terms "amateur" and "professional" have
differing meanings and connotations in different countries, and may have
to find other terms. We are interested in news about invertebrate
palaeontology work as well, though we are bound by our mission to focus
primarily on vertebrate palaeontology. Interested?
