Hello curators!

It doesn't make me happier to hear that other collections suffer from
accidents too, after we had a fire in our collection some years ago. I can
not advise on fire prevention. Our fire kept a lot of people busy here (I
was not involved) when it came to cleaning the specimens (rocks, fossils,
labels, etc., with their different physical and chemical properties).
Finally they assembled a lot of experience, including a PhD thesis that
explored cleaning techniques. It was really not easy. Keep the ETH people
in mind for consulting when you have similar problems.

I wish you will never need this information!
