Title: Message
Folks,
In March, after a
long effort spearheaded by the Alabama Paleontological Society (APS), part of
the Union Chapel Mine tracksite was dedicated by the Alabama Department of
Conservation & Natural Resources as the Steven C. Minkin Paleozoic Footprint
Site. The name honors a recently deceased APS member who was among the most
helpful in saving the site, which was discovered in December 1999 and has since
been the focus of an intensive salvage and research effort by amateurs and
professionals (Science, 8 August 2003; Geotimes, October
2003).
Discovering
Alabama is a popular local television program put out by the Alabama Museum
of Natural History. This show focuses on tetrapod trackways from the Union
Chapel Mine (Early Pennsylvanian). Discovering Alabama generally makes its shows
available on videotape after a time; please contact Roger Reid for
information.
