This sad item just in. ---------- It is with sadness that we report the death of V. Standish Mallory over the weekend. He was a professor in the Geology Department and Curator of Paleontology in the Burke Museum, the University of Washington, Seattle, from 1952 - 1984. Since his retirement he continued to work in the museum, within the collections, exhibits and education divisons, until the summer of 2000 when his health prevented it. Robert Kleimpell was his Ph.D. supervisor at University of California, Berkeley, and Stan's dissertation become the still-standard text for the U.S. West Coast benthic foraminifera, "Lower Tertiary Biostratigraphy of the California Coast Ranges" (1959). His many graduate students went on to prominent positions in the oil industry and academia.
