Dear Paleonetters,

I have already received private email informing me that my last message on
acid rain could be used as an argument to collect fossils "anywhere by
anyone for any reason." I hadn't thought of that. Thanks for the note of
caution!

Well, I would like to say here and now that I support responsible and
ethical collecting practices. Still, it is reasonable to discuss the
possible effects of acid precipitation on fossils in industrialized regions.
Hard evidence would be very welcome.
