I'm not much on the lit., but there's a good study by Cope MacClintock on
Bellerophontid and Patelloid ultrastructure.  It's Peabody Museum Bulletin
#22, 1967: "Shell structure of P. and B. gastropods (Mollusca)."  As of a
few years ago, Cope was an assistant curator at the Peabody Museum and still
had quite a few reprints available.  There's some really nice x-sec. photos
in it.
