All I am in the final stages of preparation on a large (1.2 m) mosasaur skull from the Smoky Hill Chalk (Late Cretaceous marine, Western Kansas, U.S.A.). Skull is in excellent condition and mostly articulated (crushed laterally). Bone is dark in color, dense and has good porosity. The surface of the exposed bone has been cleaned by microblasting (sodium bicarbonate) and is finely detailed. The specimen is being prepared for museum exhibit in Kansas (glass fronted case, low humidity, room temperature year around, with no other special conditions). My question is this.....does anyone have any recommendations for coatings or other prep to preserve the specimen for a long term, low maintenance exhibit? Teeth and a few areas have been treated with Paleobond but I do not want to detract from the natural appearance of the bone if possible. Thanks!
