a "lay" explanation of dating techniques

Members of the PaleoNet:

Soon, I will have the opportunity to explain dating techniques for things
paleontological to a group of high school teachers representing many
different disciplines. I should hope that someone could take a moment to
explain to me *in the most basic lay terms* so that I can convey to this
group *in the most basic lay terms* the three or four most reliable dating
techniques. If there are differences, I would be especially interested in
techniques relative to 50mya. Thanking you in advance for your time and
consideration of this enquiry.

A bientot,

David
