Dear Paleonetters, I would like to point out the possibility to talk "on line" about "Earth Science" using an IRC client. For those of you new to the internet, IRC means Internet Relay Chat. The IRC network is a virtual meeting place where people from all over the world can meet and talk. In order to do this, you may download (Free!!!) from an FTP site (using ftp protocol or netscape) IRC client (e.g. mIRC v.4.1 for Windows or ?? for Mac), install it, choose a nickname and ..... connect! Moreover, it can be an useful helping place for student from all over the world, open 24 hrs in a day. I suggest to start with a common channel (e.g. "geology"; I will open it), then, everyone can open a specific channel (e.g. paleontology, micropaleontology, conodont paleoecology.... and so on). You can connect on a IRC server (see below) and join a channel using /join command (mIRC). So, after connection you can type /join #geology or add #geology to your channel list.
