Dear Invert. Paleo. Colleagues: Quite contrary to nationally circulating rumors, the Invertebrate Paleontology collection at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is alive and well! This is rather evident as the section continues to receive loan requests, visitations by national and international researchers, locality search information, and deposition of type material. And despite the fact that the section has been without a curator for the last 18 months, the collection continues to grow, albeit at a reduced rate. The collection is worlwide and includes specimens from late Precambrian through Holocene but is especially strong in Cretaceous and Cenozoic mollusks of the western U.S. particularly from southern California. Questions should be directed to Collection Manager Lindsey T. Groves who is also CM for the LACM Recent mollusks collection at (213) 744-3485 [IP] [FAX (213) 746-7646] (Tuesdays & Thursdays) or at (213) 744-3376 [Malacology] [FAX (213) 746-2999] (Monday, Wednesday, & Friday) or e-mail: groves@bcf.usc. edu Sincerely, Aloha!
