I also agree with others who do not wish to link sci.bio.paleontology and PALEONET. While I am not a professional paleontologist, I like to maintain contact with the mainstream thoughts and events in the profession. Additionally, as many of us are, I am cross-trained in other areas and attempt to stay up-to-date in these, and use other mailing lists to do so. A moderated mailing list provides the level of access I prefer. While many well-intentioned amateurs may ask provocative and intelligent questions, these may have answers elsewhere, and more readily available than here. As it stands, my daily volume of e-mail generally exceeds 200 items. Merging the contents of a newsgroup with PaleoNet would only require additional effort to sort the wheat from the chaff. While I applaud the efforts of those who have created this new newsgroup, I would prefer to access it voluntarily, rather than be force-fed. My opinion from across the pond.
