Title: Wanted: Non-Cephalopod Mollusc Curator, Dept. of Palae
The Department of Palaeontology is seeking an entry-level curator to help manage its non-cephalopod mollusk collections and support The Natural History Museum's Collections Management Research Theme. We are seeking a dynamic, self-motivated individual to joint the Invertebrates Curation B-Team. This team is responsible for the mollusc, brachiopod, sponge, and 'worm' collections, which together comprise more that 50 per cent of the Department's holdings.

The successful candidate will be expected to support the Museum's Collections Management Research Theme by curating the non-cephalopod molluscs, including making collections information available to a wider audience through the WWW, monitoring the collection, carrying out remedial and/or preventative conservation (in association with the Department's Palaeontology Conservation Unit, where necessary), and promoting use of the collection by encouraging scientists to visit and publish their observations. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to take an active role in the support of, and contribution to, other Museum research themes, as well as participating in the Museum's public outreach programmes; especially through presentations in its Darwin Centre and Earth Lab.

An undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in the earth sciences or biological sciences is essential. Post-graduate qualification in earth sciences, marine biology, or museum studies is desirable. Collections-based experience and computer literacy, along with good written and verbal skills, are also considered essential.

Closing date: 1 October 2002.
