Dear Raul - It hardly needs saying that your needs are common to most paleontologists, especially those (i.e. micropaleo types) who deal in visualized records. There are more than a few solutions already in existence. We faced such needs for a database of calcareous nannofossils, in developing Compustrat. While this program costs money to buy, that has inspired constant improvements in flexibility, ease of use and capability. The Compustrat based program in use by the British Museum fossil data (published by Blackwell's as "PaleoBase") does not make much use of the thumbnail feature, nor is it the most recently improved version, but you can get an idea there. If you'd like to see the full capability, drop us a line at <micro@amnh.org> to arrange for a demo. Hope this commercial is not offensive. Gray area here.
