RE: paleonet GSA 2002 Session on Linking Research and Education

Dear Paul Harnik and others,

It was a half-baked comment intended as a private message to a collaborator,
and was not intended as a negative comment on your session. (Which,
actually, I would like to be able to attend.) I apologize for sending it to
the whole group.

My collaborator and I have managed to obtain some seed funding. Now I
perceive that such work may become better funded nationally, but I foresee
difficulties, as a state survey staff member, in competing for such funds
with academics. It is frustrating to have vision but not be in a position to
implement it.

Unfortunately, I have sidetracked what should be an interesting discussion
by doing the virtual equivalent of falling into the buffet. Please, let's
return to the topic at hand.
