£42k - £47k per annum

The Natural History Museum invites applications from established palaeontologists for the position of Associate Keeper of Palaeontology. The Associate Keeper of Palaeontology will be responsible for working in collaboration with the Keeper of Palaeontology to lead, manage, and administer Department staff to achieve targets for interdisciplinary research projects, development of its extensive palaeontological collections, continued improvement of facilities, and to direct commercial consultancy activities. The successful Associate Keeper of Palaeontology will also play an important role in the formulation and implementation of Museum science policy and corporate objectives. The ability to perform these tasks while maintaining a high-profile programme of original palaeontological research is desired.

The Department of Palaeontology includes 46 grant-in-aid researchers, curators, and conservators, subdivided into four administrative divisions (vertebrates & anthropology, invertebrates & plants, micropalaeontology, and the Palaeontological Conservation Unit). With collections numbering well over nine million fossils, including many historically important specimens, collections, and library resources, the Department of Palaeontology is an internationally renown centre for palaeontological research with long-standing strengths in human-origins research, taxonomy, phylogenetic systematics, and stratigraphy.

This is a permanent, tenured position from a starting date to be agreed. A PhD degree (or equivalent) and at least five years professional experience is required. The starting salary (see range above) is dependent on experience and includes a non-contributory pension scheme.
