INVERTEBRATE PALEONTOLOGY MUSEUM OF PALEONTOLOGY UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA, USA The University of California Museum of Paleontology (UCMP) seeks candidates for a full-time, 11-month Museum Scientist to oversee collection management and to pursue an active paleontological research program in the Invertebrate Section of the Museum. Duties consist of curation of separate fossil, living, and type collections, management of the invertebrate collection and data, interactions with faculty, students, and visiting researchers, consultation on exhibits and public outreach, and up to 20% research time. The successful candidates research program may be in any area paleontology, with expectation of a component of systematic expertise in a major group of fossil invertebrates as well as an interest in questions at the cutting edge of paleontology. The successful applicant will be expected to set collection management priorities in the Invertebrate Section; to hire, train, and supervise students in curation and data management; to stimulate collection growth; to maintain records and data bases; and to remain conversant in state-of-the art conservation practices. In addition to a degree in the biological or earth sciences and research experience in paleontology, the position requires comprehensive knowledge of collection management practices and facility with computer data bases. Preference will be given to candidates who have previous experience in curation of natural history collections.
