Paleontological Society members:
Due to printing errors by Allen Press that delayed mailing of the
September
Journal of Paleontology, and their failure to include a
pre-addressed return envelope with the ballot, the Paleontological
Society Council has voted to void the current election of officers.
The deadline for return of ballots was to have been October 24 (I think
-- I haven't gotten a ballot myself yet!!!)
The Council realized that the rapid turnaround of ballots necessitated by
this delay was completely unreasonable. In addition, many members
(especially those outside the U.S.) would be disenfranchised by this
unreasonable deadline. We therefore voted to void the current
election and hold a new election. You will receive a ballot in the
mail before the end of 2001, with ample time to respond. Please dispose
of any original ballots you may have. Thank you for your patience in
dealing with this unfortunate situation. We also appreciate the
patience of the candidates standing for election, especially those
nominated for the councilor position (the only contested position).
