You could try (if I remember correctly)
   http://www.amnh.org/
but I think that every time I've tried that, all I get is a page that 
says "Welcome to the AMNH. Our Web server is under construction."

Funny you should mention that. . . UCMP's listing of natural history 
museums (not really a guide, as it's not annotated) is now at
   http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/subway/nathistmus.html
Feel free to use it as you wish in constructing your own guide, and 
e-mail me if I've missed a site, or if any URLs don't work any longer. 
Let me know when your guide is ready, and I'll link it from our site.
