Release of The PaleoNet Pages (West)

PaleoNet is pleased to announce the release of a US mirror site for the
PaleoNet Pages at the University of Berkeley Museum of Paleontology. The
site will be formally known as "The PaleoNet Pages (West)" and can be found
at the following address...

http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/Paleonet/

The original PaleoNet Pages (East) site can still be found at..

http://www.nhm.ac.uk/paleonet/

All parties interested in accessing the PaleoNet Pages who are located in
North America, Canada, Mexico, Central America, etc. will probably
experience faster access times if they use The PaleoNet Pages (West) site.
At the moment both the east and west PaleoNet Pages sites contain identical
material.

In addition to the release of the PaleoNet Pages (West) site there is a new
PaleoNet Forum article by Tim Patterson et al. entitled "The Potential of
HTML in Undergraduate Paleontology Courses." This article recounts the
experience of Tim and his students during a recent project in which Tim
offered students in his Evolutionary Paleoecology class the opportunity to
develop a topic-oriented WWW site in lieu of the traditional term paper.
Links to the class project pages are provided so that everyone can judge
the results of this experiment for themselves. Personally, I think Tim's
idea has exciting potential for getting students involved in paleontology
in an entirely new way. The article, and subsequent project site links, can
be accessed from The PaleoNet Pages (East and West) Home Page.

Finally, over the last few weeks I've added many new links to the "Places
to Go" page, new announcements of meetings, courses, etc. to the "Things to
Do" page, along with revising the entire style to (hopefully) make the
PaleoNet Pages easier and more fun to use. If you haven't taken a look at
the PaleoNet Pages recently, you might want to revist them now.

There is one known bug that still exists at the bottom of the PaleoNet
Pages (West) "Places to Go" page, but Rob Guralnick and I are in the
process of sorting that out. Otherwise, if you find any problems, have
links to add, etc. please contact me offline.
