Nautiloids are relatively rare as fossils, but deposits relatively rich in the fossils do exist, for example the Devonian "Cephalopod Limestones" of Europe. In North America, however, I have not had much luck locating nautiloid-rich deposits in the literature. Some USA sites I have run across include the Ordovician Maquoketa Shale (Iowa) and the Waynesville Formation (Ohio). Hence a query: Does anyone out there know of North American sites (published or unpublished) with high concentrations of nautiloids? Now I realize that "high concentration" is rather vague, but at this stage any information regarding "abnormally" high abundances would be appreciated. Also, to keep PaleoNet uncluttered please respond to me directly; if you are interested in a response summary, also drop me a line. Thanks everyone.
