Awards for Grad/Undergrad Res. Visits to UCMP



The University of California, Berkeley,  Museum of Paleontology (UCMP)
announces the establishment of a graduate and undergraduate student award
for research at UCMP.


The UCMP offers awards of up to $700 for visiting undergraduate and
graduate students from any institution of higher learning in the world to
travel to and research in the collections and facilities of the UCMP at
Berkeley.  The Award open to any young scientist at US and foreign
universities, colleges or research agencies, such as institutes or museums.
Minority and economically disadvantaged students are especially encouraged
to apply.

To apply, complete the following form, have it signed by your faculty
advisor or senior researcher at your institution.  The evaluation of
proposals will be based on three factors:  (1)  The importance of the work
proposed; (2) its relevance to the UCMP collections; and (3) the
qualifications of the applicant.  Proposals should be submitted by March 31
or September 30  for consideration for funding in the following summer or
academic year.

Research proposals are welcome in systematics, taxonomy, paleoecology,
biostratigraphy, molecular paleontology, functional morphology, and all
related fields of paleontology and paleobiology.  Studies of any taxa are
eligible for consideration, provided that there is a paleontological
component involving the study of holdings at UCMP.  Visitation dates are
contingent upon arrangements with UCMP collection staff.  For further
