Neil,

The American Museum of Natural History gets part of it's funding from the
City of New York where I live and Pay a Great Deal of Taxes!

Most institutions recieve some money in the form of research grants or
awards and that money comes from "our" government.

As of now I do not know what the Smithsonian's stance is on the pending
legislation concerning fossil collecting, all I do know is that there are
is a small group of scientists with some overly protective concerns.
