Sutton) Status: O Sorry to be positive! on lingulides which ecological requirements are the best known among the brachiopods but perhaps not enough I agree. Consequently paleoecology and taphonomy can be interpreted from data of the present time. At least lingulids with oblong shell (sometimes named Lingula shell shape type) can get important taphonomic patterns and consequently appreciate the (paleo)ecological changes and get an paleoecological interpretation after analyses of the fossil bed compared to fossilization conditions of the living lingulides. On the other hand the lingulids cannot be used for stratigraphy.
