In the discussion regarding evolution, some words have specific
meanings that creationists use to confuse the issues in the mind of
the public. For scientists, separating the arguments supporting
evolution from the discussion of origins is critical. An excellent
resource for this is a book by Langdon Gilkey, a theologian who played
a major role in the Arkansas "Creation Science" lawsuit in the early
1980's. The book is called "God on Trial" (by the way, Gilkey and
many other theologians were witnesses for the 'evolution' side, not
the creation science side). His work also contains the ruling by the
judge in the case, which clarified for me the firm ground on which the
scientific community can stand in the debate (at least using U.S.
     law).
