Hi all,
Can anyone help? The new academic year is beckoning and like the
rest of the academic community we have courses to plan and students to
educate. In our case we run a very popular Micropalaeontology 3rd year
option course. So popular that we have no less than 42 enthusiasts to
accommodate this year. In the past with smaller numbers we have
experienced little difficulty in finding suitable samples for the
students to process. However, this year we are struggling. Coming
rapidly to the point, what we need are suggestions for British sample
localities and horizons where we can collect material which will yield
abundant well preserved, and above all, pretty ostracods and/or forams.
Age is immaterial, but the samples must be able to be processed easily
with petrol or hydrogen peroxide. A grid ref and any reference available
for the section would be very helpful, along with any other relevant
information. My plans are to head south initially, so localities along
the south coast are especially welcome.
It is probably better to contact me directly on as48@leicester.ac.uk
(no prying students!)
Best wishes and thanks to you all,
Andrew Swift
