Thomas may be right about where Paleontology's contributions should focus in order to address our climatic futures better. BUT, even if T. is absolutely correct about global warming trends and CFC impacts, the notion that we are in a decade of "eco-environmental extremeism" is not supported. Everyone makes mistakes; but I do not believe it is a mistake to argue forcefully that our human impact on Earth, accelerating events of environmental change, much to the dismay and "discomfort" of many of Earth's human population, is an egregious assault on the Environment, not to be diminished by labeling our concerns as "extremism". We _should_ become extreme (which, relatively, we have yet to become!) if we expect to adjust this insane rate of self-destruction. We can do so readily without having to cling to even one erroneous idea or hypothesis. I'm sure that Paleontology can bring a certain unique light and perspective to our efforts to live in better harmony with ourselves and the rest of life on Earth.
