Re: Virus Alert!

I am going offline from paleonet right now due to going to sea on ODP Leg
161. However, I am attaching a document about invircible - and anti-virus
scanner that boasts of 100% success - and it's a freebie downloadable on the
various services (e.g. aol, compuserve, etc.;I do not have a general
address). It supposedly lures viruses and destroys them and apparently
doesn't need a "list" of types as others do. Check into it.

InVircible claims to be much more sophisticated and effective than any other
anti-virus product available or anticipated. It is the only anti-virus
package able to state that every single virus in the three known virus
classes (Boot Sector, FAT/Directory, Executables) has been to date detected
and removed -- a track record that dates back to the Fall of 1990!
InVircible implements Adaptive Expert System (AES) technology that is uncanny
in the ability to absolutely detect viruses and then completely and exactly
restore the infected executables, and doing this without needing to "know" or
"name" the infecting virus.

AES technology omits the costly need to obtain regular "updates". It omits
the need to move your executables. It omits the need to run a TSR or device
driver. It omits the need to install a hardware card. It omits the need to
worry about whether your anti-virus software "knows" the specific virus
bugging your PC.

Once InVircible secures an executable, you will absolutely know whether it
has been attacked by a virus. The Shareware edition of InVircible is
identical to the full version. Shareware InVircible gives the information
needed to delete and replace infected executables. The full version adds the
option to completely restore infected executables 99.99+% of the time (close
to being perfect!). All restorations are exact, so you can't tell that a
virus infection had occurred! A scanner (which AES technology does not
depend on) that doesn't need updating is included for those common viruses
with a name. InVircible is effective against polymorphic, mutating,
encrypted, and compound virus attacks. If an impeccable track record dating
back to 1990 sounds better than promises of effectiveness and perpetual
purchases of "updates", then InVircible is for you.

New with the version:

Product upgrade, InVircible 6.01B
---------------------------------
Installation of InVircible on networked PC: Revision 6.01B has an additional
file, IVLOGIN.EXE. As its name implies, its use is from the user login script
in networks. When a workstation connects to the
network, IVLOGIN verifies whether it has a hard drive, and if InVircible is
installed on that disk. If not, INSTALL/FAST is invoked to install IV to the
hard disk. The LAN administrator is required to install IV to the server and
add the IVLOGIN command to the user loggin script. The rest is done
automatically.

IVB upgrade: Some lame viruses affect *.SYS and *.OVL files, if they have an
executable structure (usually an EXE one). Thus, *.SYS and *.OVL files were
added under IVB's coverture. These files are now secured by IVB, and can be
recovered, in case they get infected.

ResQdisk upgrades: There were disk configurations that ResQdisk didn't
recognize properly. These were found mostly on Compaq models, having a
special partition dedicated to proprietary diagnostics, coming first, before
the DOS active partition. ResQdisk was upgraded to accommodate for these
configurations too.

In addition, ResQdisk had a few fixes to assure its proper functioning with
the new mode 3 and 4 IDE standards, EIDE as well as with large capacity SCSI
drives. This now covers all hard disk types used in personal computers.

Install upgrades: The French version of InVircible configures now the rescue
diskette to start with a French keyboard. Install also takes care to REM out
the Thunderbyte TSR in the autoexec, at the installation of IV. The TB TSR
intercept IV initialization checks and may crash the system. Also, Install
will now install the IV registration key to hard drives having the Compaq
configuration (see ResQdisk, above).

User interface updates. Both IVB and IVSCAN command line syntax has been
improved. The [d:] argument, where d represents a drive letter, will now
start the program
