Item Subject: Returned mail: User unknown I don't know about Shell, but Amoco just reduced its VP level by 17 out of a total I believe of fortysomething. Pretty siignificant, huh? Remember, Jere, industry is at the front end of the money-chain. What we generate, we earn. We pay taxes to the government so that it can be passed on to those claiming to do research. Money is not handed to industry by a government, or some other funding agency. Academics don't need to worry about world competition. They just need to select the next place for their sabatical. ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Returned mail: User unknown Author: paleonet-owner (paleonet-owner@nhm.ac.uk) at unix,in Date: 12/28/94 6:57 PM I am sorry to continue to clutter up PaleoNet, but it looks like Shell Oil Co. is now saving money by returning email directed to their employees. Another example of meanness in corporations?? Or just another corporate screw-up, like so many others that cost them and us lots of money. [Oh, did ya hear the news this morning about the average salary for CEOs in America. For Wall Streeters its just over $1-mill/yr, and it goes down from there just a bit in other industries. I wonder what the top guys make, and the poor suckers at the bottom that drag the average down. Sorry, I missed the oil industry part, but they must be making a bundle for all those wise decisions they've made lately. Anyone know if the oil CEOs have been downsized yet? Can't just be paleontologists!] If you are still out there Mike Styzen, you might tell your postmaster that you are still at Shell, unless he/she/it knows something you don't! Maybe you should stop sending those messages--could be the postmaster reads PaleoNet. Here's what I tried to get past your system to you: Jere >Date: Wed, 28 Dec 94 18:06:08 -0600 >From: Mail Delivery Subsystem <MAILER-DAEMON@shell.com> >Subject: Returned mail: User unknown >To: postmaster@shell.com >To: jlipps@ucmp1.Berkeley.EDU > > ----- Transcript of session follows ----- >550 mstyzen...
