Florida Museum Natural History: Vertebrate Paleontology Preparator The Division of Vertebrate Paleontology, Florida Museum of Natural History (www.flmnh.ufl.edu), University of Florida invites applications for a full-time preparator position, beginning as early as February, 2007. Minimum requirements include a Master's degree or higher in geology, biology, or other relevant discipline; or a bachelor's degree in geology, biology, or other relevant discipline and at least two years of fossil preparation experience in an established laboratory. Experience in vertebrate paleontology fieldwork, vertebrate fossil preparation and restoration is preferred and some supervisory experience is beneficial. The duties and responsibilities of this position primarily involve the preparation of vertebrate fossils and management of the vertebrate paleontology preparation laboratory, a facility that supports the vertebrate paleontology collections at the Florida Museum of Natural History. The preparator will assist in supervision of excavations, and will be responsible for preparation, molding, casting, and restoration of vertebrate fossils. The preparator will be expected to work closely with the Division of Vertebrate Paleontology collections manager and curators, students and volunteers, and participate in public programs. Starting salary range is $40,000 to $45,000 with competitive benefits, negotiable based on qualifications and experience.
