Good, not-so-good and bad things happen in any country around the world.

What counts here (possible other list-members, particularly in the US)
know how to achieve it:

If the things mentioned are true: That the student who had to leave
university for unfair reasons is treated fair and gets a compensation:
(what I would call, translated from German: Repair of the Damage).

Not some fantastically high sum of money but a good scholarship,
possibly free courses, possibly good supervision (BSc, MSc, PhD)
a half position afterwards (the other half depending on efforts)
depending on qualification.

That is: Science as normal. But the "fight" to get a scholarship etc.
waived as part of the compensation.

Again: If, what stated, is true. I only read it and did not check it.
(= I only read it, I have no opinion on either side, neither the student
nor the mentioned professor; it is a suggestion "how to introduce
fairness after bad things happened" - thus possibly relevant
beyond this case).

Fair compensation of people, thinking about reasonable compensation
in case bad things happened, is something that might be of general
interest (= not activating lawyers but seeking constructive
solutions).
Fair compensation is much better than any lifelong resent.
