Please see my original e-mail below. Dear palaeontologist! Are you: 1) planning to attend IPC 2006 in Beijing; 2) a resident of northern Eurasia (possibly applicable to those outside this area); 3) concerned about the contribution of aviation to global warming? If so, why not join me on the Trans-Siberian-Mongolian and experience one of the world's great journeys, in which we will have opportunities for an extended 'pre-conference' and an induction into the geography and geology of the route. There is a departure from Moscow at 21.30 on 6th June, arriving Beijing at 14.31 on 12th June (in time to participate in at least one of the pre-Congress excursions, relax in Beijing or, as I shall be doing, travel onward to make a visit elsewhere before returning to Beijing). The price is reasonable (349, 364 or 487 US dollars for a berth in, respectively, a four-, three- or two-berth cabin) and you will arrive with the clearest of consciences! You will be aware of the need to organise visas (the Russian visa has to be registered at least 24 hours in advance, requiring you to be in Moscow on 5th June) so if you are interested in participating I would ask you to respond to me by 15th April. This will give time also to set up other arrangements - in Moscow, en route and in Beijing - to the maximum benefit of participants. The tour operator with whom I am in contact has so far dealt extremely efficiently and effectively with my enquiries and I would think that there is every possibility of arranging things so that this is a memorable, enjoyable and productive experience.
