Yale Peabody Museum - Museum Assistant I

The Yale Peabody Museum, Division of Invertebrate Paleontology, is
seeking applications for the position of Museum Assistant I. This is a
three-year position, funded by a grant from the National Science
Foundation. The Museum Assistant would aid the Collections Manager in
the organization, cataloging, and incorporation of fossil invertebrates
from a stratigraphic collection to a systematically arranged collection.
He or she would perform general maintenance on fossil invertebrates,
labels, and trays, and recognize unique accession, collecting events,
and historical keys, utilizing this information to catalog specimens in
a computerized database.

Applicants should have a thorough knowledge of fossil invertebrate
diversity and stratigraphy demonstrated by coursework, fieldwork, or
research. Preference will be given to applicants with a degree in
geology, paleontology, or biology. The ideal applicant could sort and
identify fossil invertebrate specimens to high-level taxonomic
categories and be able to identify fossil brachiopods to the generic or
family level, using reference material.

Review of applications will begin on April 15, 2006 and will continue
until the position is filled. The projected start date of employment is
July 1, 2006.
