Two extra points and I finish with all these nonsense: "To ignore existing geopolitical units (e.g. Spain) runs counter to this need, and sets a dangerous trend. We cannot pretend, for example, that (at present) Tibet is not part of China, or that northern Ireland is not part of the U K. This does not mean that we dont respect (or agree with) the views of those opposed to their current status. We are all involved in politics, whether we like it or not, but please lets keep it out of our science. Chris King" 1. "Be part" ds not mean "be" 2. How can you accept an unbalance geopolitical position like the North of Irealnd being part of UK and respect the feeling of their identities? 3. As I said the soultion is to use geogrphical naming... I think Geopolitical units should change to Geo-geographical units...I do not hink many Portuguese (that got independent from the Spanish State) sciantists are happy to be part of the Spanish geopolitical unit...I know most of them would rather be part of the Iberian geopolitical unit! Unfortunately, poepl do not speak their minds out like myself because of the implications, however, thank you very much for your messages of support and understanding...I understand why you cannot talk openly...Do not worry, I will get a different job...Already many doors have been closed because who I am...No problem...I do sleep well Respectfully, Xavier Panades I Blas 55, Marksbury Road Bedminster Bristol BS3 5JY England (EC) http://www.acs.bolton.ac.uk/~xp1pls/ From: "chris king" <chrking@globalnet.co.uk> Reply-To: paleonet@nhm.ac.uk To: <paleonet@nhm.ac.uk> Subject: Re: paleonet stir it up? The terminology of science is a means of international communication, and in a geographically based science such as geology this includes locality information. Our political views should have no bearing on our need to provide universally understood information.
