Dear Colleagues: On behalf of Da-yong Jiang, I would like to draw your attention to a symposium on marine vertebrates to be held during the upcoming International Paleontological Congress in Beijing (June 17-21). Co-chairs include Olivier Rieppel, Li Jin-ling, and Sun Yuan-lin. For more information, here is a webpage that was just posted: http://www.marinereptile.org/ The campus of the Peking University, where the meeting will be held, is touchingly beautiful with historic buildings and bodies of water--follow the URL above to see for yourself. There is going to be a post-congress field trip (June 22-27) to Guizhou and Yunnan Province that will introduce you to the new and old Triassic marine vertebrate localities, as well as famous geological sections. The symposium title contains "Triassic", but we will welcome abstracts that do not directly address this time period, as long as they help illuminate the evolution of Mesozoic marine vertebrates. Contributions from non-vertebrate workers are also sought--the aim is to promote multidisciplinary and multi-taxic approaches to help improve our understanding of the evolution in the ocean after the P/T extinction. Please let Da-yong (djiang@pku.edu.cn) or me (motani@geology.ucdavis.edu) know if you are interested in participating, unless you have already done so. Abstract deadline is March 1. My apology for cross-posting, and we hope to see you in Beijing this June. -- Ryosuke Motani, Ph.D. Assistant Professor Department of Geology University of California One Shields Avenue Davis, CA 95616 TEL: (530)754-6284 FAX: (530)752-0951 rmotani@ucdavis.edu http://www.geology.ucdavis.edu/~motani/
