The Cushman Foundation for Foraminiferal Research announces a request for proposals for the year 2005 Joseph A. Cushman Award for Student Research, William V. Sliter Research Award and the Loeblich and Tappan Student Research Award. These awards, each with a maximum amount of $2000, are to support research dealing with foraminifera or allied groups. The Joseph A. Cushman Award supports worthy Master's and Doctoral Student research projects dealing with the systematics, biostratigraphy, paleoecology, and ecology of fossil or living foraminifera. The William V. Sliter Research Award supports graduate student research on Mesozoic and Cenozoic foraminifera. The Loeblich and Tappan Student Research Award supports undergraduate and graduate student research on any aspect of living or fossil foraminifera or other protists, such as diatoms, coccolithophorids, dinoflagellates, acritarchs, or radiolaria More information about the awards can be found at http://www.cushmanfoundation.org/awards/index.html Proposals will be judged upon scientific merit and financial need. Proposals should consist of a short (1 3 pages) summary of the student's research, a curriculum vitae, and a budget. Previous awardees should include a short summary of research completed with the award. Decisions will be made by the Cushman Foundation Board of Directors by the end of November 2005, and funds will be available for 2006.
