paleonet Tracking a palaeontological fraud ...

Dear Colleagues,

You possibly saw sometime ago Julio Aguirre's paper on Imam's fraud.
http://www.up.ac.za/organizations/societies/psana/Plagiarism_in_Palaeontology-A_New_Threat_Within_The_Scientific_Community.pdf
http://www.ku.edu/~ifaa/Archives/Braga-Aguirre.htm
http://www.the-scientist.com/news/20040922/02
http://www.the-scientist.com/news/20041008/03 (I didn't say exactly what has been reported!)
It concerns red algae!

But we also found the same problem in another paper dealing with green algae:
http://www.ku.edu/~ifaa/Archives/Granier-Senowbari-Daryan.htm

And more recently Mme Feist (and myself) found some new fraudulent uses of pictures in another paper of the same author:
"Imam, M. M., and Refaat, A. A. 2000. Stratigraphy and facies analysis of the Miocene sequence at Gabal Hammam Sayidna Musa and Wadi Abura, southern Sinai, Egypt. Neues Jahrbuch für Geologie und Paläontologie, Monatshefte, 7, 385-408."

http://www-sdt.univ-brest.fr/~bgranier/geologie/paleontologie/fraud-1.htm
http://www-sdt.univ-brest.fr/~bgranier/geologie/paleontologie/fraud-2.htm

I am adressing this ms to Cenozoic micropaleontology specialists particularly because Imam also displayed some plates with planktonic (mostly) and benthonic foraminifera which he probably lifted from other authors' papers (and I am not that familiar enought with these materials).

HOWEVER I found that Foram specimens he reported (Imam, 2003, Rev. Esp. Micropal.) as:
Globigerina bulloides (his Pl.2, fig.6) is the Pl.9, fig.5 from Chaisson & Leckie (1993, Proc. ODP, SR, 130, as Globoquadrina baroemoenensis)
Globigerina ciperoensis (his Pl.2, fig.7) is the Pl.9, fig.9 from Leckie et alii (same vol.)
Globigerina angustiumbilicata (his Pl.2, fig.8) is the Pl.9, fig.9 from Chaisson & Leckie (same vol., as Globoquadrina ? cf. G. extans)
Globigerina angulisuturalis (his Pl.2, fig.9) is the Pl.9, fig.10 from Leckie et alii (same vol., as ciperoensis)
Globigerina angulisuturalis (his Pl.2, fig.11) is the Pl.9, fig.1 from Leckie et alii (same vol.)

You can possibly help me to identify some more material ... because the guy was stupid enought to list in his references papers (or at least authors) from which he stole the pictures.

Mostafa Mansour Imam is reported dead (cf. the Scientist ... though I get some doubts); in any case due to the "publicity" given to his fraud he probably won't publish again!
BUT we aim at supporting future research in the areas/fields (stratigraphy of North Africa, Near East and Middle East, microfossils) he "investigated" by correcting figure descriptions and highlighting that there are possibly no data to support his interpretations.
