The Reader, a free weekly newspaper in Chicago, had as its July 2 cover
story:
"The Vanishing Mother Lode of Mazon Creek." by Mike
Sula
Subheading: "One of the planet's best deposits of prehistoric
fossils is getting trashed, and no one seems to care but a small group of
fanatical collectors."
The article extensively reviews the history, significance, and status of
the Mazon Creek sites, with a nice tribute to Eugene Richardson and talks
with the major amateur collectors.
Unfortunately, the Reader does not put it's articles on line. I have
contacted them about making it available and will keep you all informed
when I find out more.
