paleonet Prof. Margalef passed away

The Catalan Professor Ramon Margalef, pioneer in palaeo-ecology died 
yesterday at his home in Barcelona (Catalunya).
He accumulated many awards during his active years such as the Gold medal 
and Sant George medals from the Generalitat of Catalonia, Premi Huntsmann 
d’Oceanografia –considered the " Sea Nobel prize "— de l’Institut Bedford de 
Halifax (Canadà, 1980).
Ramon Margalef developed excellent work on limnology, oceanography, and 
ecological theory. Books and papers:  ecological theory (1968), Ecology 
(1974) and Limnology (1983), Our Biosphere (1997).
