The GSA 2004 Annual Meeting (and PS) Abstract submission is currently open (April 1) and closes on July 13 (http://www.geosociety.org). This year, the Paleontological Society has arranged to have four sub-categories from which you can choose to help place your abstract in the proper session. If your abstract does not logically fit into any of these categories, then just submit it under the general session. The list includes: Paleontology, Phylogenetic/Morphological
Patterns
This year, the PS will be sponsoring 7 Topical Sessions and 2 Pardee Sessions:
We are very pleased to bring you this outstanding program. Our meeting continues to grow every year. Last year, we had over 360 abstracts in our program, representing 10% of the GSA Annual Meeting. We hope that trend continues. CALL FOR PS MEMBERSHIP---
Finally, if you are not already a
member of the Paleontological
Society, or have let your membership lapse, we would like you to please
consider joining as a regular or student member. The PS has served our scientific
community for nearly 100 years. It
publishes two very high quality journals (e.g. The Journal of Paleontology, and Paleobiology), organizes annual and
sectional meetings, provides opportunities for student research grants and
professional recognition (e.g. the Schuchert Award, Strimple Award and PS
Medal). It sponsors an annual Short
Course and a Society-wide Distinguished Lecture series. By joining the PS, you will be
shaping the future of paleontological inquiry in this new century. If you are already a member, please do
not forget to renew your membership for 2004. This is an important step in keeping the
programs of our Society strong. In
the coming year, in addition to our regular activities, the PS will be
introducing a website called the Paleontological Portal, as well as sponsoring
Focus Groups at GSA for feedback as to how our Society may better serve
you. We hope that you have a successful 2004 and continue to participate and support the Society. We greatly appreciate it! Together, we will shape the future of our discipline in research and teaching!
Sincerely, Lisa Park, PS Councilor At Large (under 40) and JTPC PS Committee Chair
