Alan Higgins passed away early last Friday during a brief hospital visit 
after an unexpected return of  cancer. Alan was a founding director of 
StrataData in 1992 and during his long career worked for BP Research, the 
Canadian Geological Survey and Sheffield University. He was also closely 
involved with the British Micropalaeontology Society and the Geological 
Society of London and Secretary of the Mid-Carboniferous Boundary Working 
Group of the Carboniferous Subcommission on Stratigraphy until it completed 
its mission in 1995.


All those that knew him will miss his calm and personable attitude, and our 
thoughts are with his wife Barbara at this time.
