6) New NSTA Press® Book on Teaching Evolution

NSTA Press® announces publication of "Evolution in Perspective: The Science Teacher's Compendium" which provides a valuable collection of articles that first appeared in The Science Teacher, NSTA's member journal. The collection is written for educators who deal with the evolution issue every day, and helps them to address the subject in the classroom and prepare them to respond to common misconceptions and questions from students, parents, and other members of the community. The volumen contains 12 articles covering three key topics: The Scientific Perspective, which explores the evidence supporting evolution; The Educational Perspective, which looks at evolution's place in the National Science Education Standards and the thorny problem of calling evolution a "theory;" and The Science Teachers' Perspective, which discusses lesson plans that allow students to explore evolution and draw their own conclusions. The entire book is available for browsing online and purchase at the NSTA Science Store web site at http://store.nsta.org/ or by calling 1-800-277-5300 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST weekdays. The 99-page book is priced at $15.95, and discount priced for NSTA members at $12.76.
