Palaeontology at The Natural History Museum, London.
DEPARTMENT OF PALAEONTOLOGY
PALAENTOLOGICAL PREPARATOR
(3-Year, Fixed Term)
Starting Salary: £20,726 - 23,853 per annum
(Depending on Experience)
The Department of Palaeontology of the Natural History Museum, London
is seeking a Palaeontological Preparator to provide dedicated support
to its research programmes. We are looking for a dynamic, creative,
self-motivated individual with a broad range of skills and experience
who will use their talents to help departmental staff maintain, and
expand their research work. This position will be managed in the
context of the Department's Palaeontology Conservation Unit (PCU)
which provides support for the Department's collections-based
activities and plays a limited advisory role in the provision of
conservation throughout the Museum.
The Department of Paleontology manages many vibrant research
programmes. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake
preparation work on a wide range of palaeontological materials,
develop a detailed work-programme for preparing material in support of
Department research needs, and (where possible) actively publish
and/or lecture on preparation techniques. In addition, the newly
appointed Preparator will have an opportunity to take an active role
in personally contributing to the Department research programmes, as
well as participating in the Department's outreach programmes (e.g.,
through the Darwin Centre and Earth Lab).

REPLICATOR (Band 5)
Fixed-Term Appointment (6 months)
Salary £20,726- £22,200 per annum

experience)
The Department of Palaeontology of The Natural History Museum, London
is seeking a commercial replication specialist to provide dedicated
support to its casting consultancy for a six-month, fixed-term
contract (with a possibility for extension). We are looking for a
dynamic, creative, self-motivated individual with a broad range of
skills and experience who is interested in using their talents to help
department staff fulfill existing casting contracts. You will work in
the Department's Palaeontology Conservation Unit (PCU), which is a
recognized international centre of excellence in conservation,
preparation, and replication of fossil materials.
Minimum of six month's experience in replication, along with good
written/verbal communication skills, are considered essential. A BSc
degree (or equivalent) in either art, conservation, earth sciences, or
biological sciences, along with business management experience, are
considered desirable.
