ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN PALEONTOLOGY
The Department of Geology, University of California, Davis,
invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in
paleontology, at the Assistant Professor level. We seek an
outstanding vertebrate or invertebrate paleontologist asking questions
of broad importance, using quantitative, rigorous methodologies, whose
interests and expertise complement those of existing faculty.
Our exceptional program in geology, together with the tremendous depth
and breadth of related sciences across campus (Evolution and Ecology,
Environmental Science and Policy, and Population Biology, to name a
few), make UCD particularly attractive for paleontological research.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent,
productive research program, advise graduate students, and contribute
to our undergraduate and graduate teaching program in paleontology.
Candidates should possess the Ph.D. or equivalent degree in the
geological sciences or a closely related field at the time of
appointment; post-doctoral experience is desirable, but not required.
For additional information about the department, see our web page
http://www.geology.ucdavis.edu.
Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, a statement of research and
teaching interests, and names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail
addresses of at least three people who can be contacted for
recommendations to:

The position will be effective starting July 1, 2004. To ensure
full consideration, applications should be received by January 5,
2004; we will begin reviewing applications on December 1, 2003.
The position will remain open until filled.
